Daciana Octavia Sarbu
Member of the European Parliament, Vice-Chair of the ENVI committee
Born on 15 January 1977, in Arad, Romania, Daciana Sârbu is a Member of the European Parliament and the Romanian Social Democratic Party (PSD), part of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the EP (S&D).
She is vice-chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI). She studied Commercial Law in Timisoara.
She has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Romania since 1996. In 2004, she was elected as a member of the Romanian Parliament, and in 2007 she became an MEP. She is currently serving her third term, after being re-elected in May 2014.
One of Daciana’s main priorities lies with children’s nutrition and the fight against obesity. She supports a legal limit on industrial trans fatty acids in food and legislation to minimise children’s exposure to advertising for unhealthy foods and alcohol. Daciana is currently drafting a report on the implementation of the EU’s 7th Environment Action Programme.
